Young Naturalists School

‘We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors. We borrow it from our children’ – Native American Proverb

YNS

We have been working with children since our foundation and the Young Naturalists School is a deeper immersion from the YNC. It is a program by invitation only to children and families that have engaged with us regularly and have shown long term commitment.

The main objective of the YNS is to foster curiosity and to build empathy and compassion for the self and the planet. Children will continue to be at their mainstream schools and learn the academic syllabus required for a professional life. However mainstream education rarely nurtures the heart. This is where the YNS fills an all-pervasive gap. A gap that should be addressed so that we can co-create a society which is inclusive and compassionate. We truly believe that in order to leave a better planet to our children, we must strive to leave kinder children to our planet.

The YNS syllabus includes (not limited to) farming, basic field skills, nature connect, survival skills, meditation, music, singing, walks, reading, arts, field trips, animal interaction, mindfulness, listening circles, yoga, guest speakers, sign language, culinary skills, team building and a lot more. Children engage with each other, nature, animals and themselves. We have also dedicated free-play time where children will foster peer-to-peer and independent learning. The YNS kids are a community within themselves, forging life long bonds.

Between YNS sessions we meet online to watch videos on the monthly themes. The children also receive very simple empathy building tasks for home learning as well as a daily 11-minute mindfulness practice.

At the YNS we also map every child’s Human Design, working style and further map quarterly impact assessments to ensure that the project meets its objectives. The mapping system has been designed drawing inspiration from the Inner Development Goals and Humanity Charter.

Each batch of the YNS has set out themes and sub-themes.
