EcoEd for Schools

“When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.” – Alexander Den Heijer

EcoEd

The real ‘knowledge’ in schools and colleges is negligible. Instead children involuntarily learn the unintentional content of school systems – fear of authority, suppressing internal knowledge and fear of making a mistake. The current educational system is turning genuine, imaginative, creative minds into those that can only imitate and copy.

EcoEd is a programme for Schools, Children and Facilitators. The aim of the program is to

  • Cocreate empathy and inclusivity
  • Bring about Socio-Ecological Behavioural Change
  • Enhance environmental identity and environmental literacy
  • Facilitate spiritual, ethical, cognitive, mental, physical and emotional understanding
  • Equip facilitators to create empathetic and conscious classrooms

We foster curiosity for the natural world within every teacher and child by complementing the current curriculum whilst working within the existing frameworks of schools and colleges. Instead of the typical portion oriented classroom based approach, our program comprises interactive, visual, practical and collaborative engagement.

Just as it is important to leave a better planet to our children we also need to leave kinder children to this planet. Just as every child is inspired by a teacher, we must build capacities to foster holistic learning. We instil ecological sensitivity and show ways to be ecologically accountable for our actions and become part of the solution. We stress on civic sense – a subject which, unfortunately, is only a supplement to history in our schools. Most importantly we motivate children and teachers to become agents for positive change.

Learning Outcomes:

EcoEd is a customised and structured programme with measurable learning outcomes for both youth and facilitators. Through a systematic, feedback loop we aim to achieve:

For Children:

  • Enhanced environmental literacy and identity
  • Increased EQ and Empathy
  • Respect varied perspectives
  • Build a safe and inclusive peer space
  • Identifying their role in society as a changemaker

For Facilitators:

  • Enhanced environmental literacy and identity
  • Self empowerment that will enable empowered classrooms
  • Develop a healthy work life balance
  • Enhanced EQ and empathy
  • Stress relief and holistic well being

Since inception we have sensitised over 12,500 children and their teachers across 9 Indian cities and 4 states through over 30 schools and 5 colleges. Schools and colleges are taking on EcoEd as a yearlong visiting faculty program that complements their curriculum.
