Core Philosophy

Existing and emerging global challenges are symptoms of a deeper crisis. The root cause is a crisis of consciousness, of a lack of compassion and of empathy. Conditioned to be living in capitalist systems, we falsely believe that we are separate from nature. We have created exploitative systems that are unsustainable and unkind. These systems drive inequity and injustice. The relentless promotion of the materials economy has led to changing climates, rising socio-ecological disparities and increased mental health concerns. This need not be our future.

Protecterra Ecological Foundation is a labour of love and made of dreams and visions. Founded in 2011 with the conviction that people can do only as much as they are aware of, Protecterra has resiliently stayed true to its vision over the years. Our impact indicators are the countless lives we have motivated, transformed, and inspired. We have co-created a thriving community that cares, acts and effects change in society. The people we work with have become agents of change themselves.

The many different initiatives and projects focus on outcome and action. We are constantly reinventing ourselves to facilitate change in an ever changing paradigm. At PEF, we know that people will only do as much as they are aware of. The need then, is to raise the existing bar of awareness and bring people into a new consciousness. The problems plaguing our planet are in reality those of greed, apathy and selfishness. A socio-ecological behavioural change is needed and all our projects focus on facilitating this change.

Every individual has the intrinsic capacity to be compassionate, kind and loving. However in our daily grind we get caught up and carried away. The need to look within is ever more necessary now in our urban and time bound lifestyles. Development is inevitable just as it is necessary; the key though is to be sustainable and sensitive. There needs to be a global reformation of our lifestyles in order to accommodate balance. Our economic stability entirely depends upon our ecological stability. Everything on Terra is interlinked.

There is a need to bring about a change in the very behaviour of people. We call this Socio-Ecological Behavioural Change (EBC). A person who is kind to themselves would automatically be kind towards the Earth. People are just people, there is no good and bad, there just is. It is what we do that defines our impact. All our projects and initiatives are based on this central core philosophy and are:
